RE: How to connect bar-b-que to motorhome tank

You need to have a tee fitting and a shut-off valve installed ahead of the rv regulator so you can supply high-pressure gas to the bbq regulator. A propane shop can do that, as well as provide the proper hose and fittings to mate with the bbq. When I had it done the cost was about $60.

RE: Hwy 160 W from Walsenburg to Durango Co

We recently did 160 from Walsenburg to Pagosa Springs in a 35' MH with a tow - no problem.

RE: Wet Balloon Fiesta

Wonder how the 5er got out, that's terrible it looks like he had blocks of wood under the front landing gear? Both of those RVs got out with help from a giant wrecker truck. I didn't see him do the fiver so don't know what he did. I also watched him extract a second DP by dragging the rear sideways to clear some water and electric hookups, then back. It was not a pretty sight. DW shot some video and intends to put it on youtube later. I will post a link if she gets it done.

RE: Which Polish

Try ProtectAll Oxidation Remover and Color Restorer. If that does not work it may need to be buffed out using a mild polishing paste, but take care not to damage the decals.

Wet Balloon Fiesta

The 2008 Albuquerque Balloon Festival is off to a wet start. After a fairly good first day (Saturday) we had a steady rain all night, and most of today's events have been canceled. For substitute entertainment there is "stuck RV watching". These photos were taken in the south parking area which is on a land fill and unpaved. I am sure it was not entertaining to those who got stuck but everybody got out ok. http://home.roadrunner.com/~morodat/_photos/stuck-mh.jpg http://home.roadrunner.com/~morodat/_photos/stuck-fiver.jpg Good weather is promised from tomorrow forward.

RE: water transfer pump

Maybe, but it would not be a regulated voltage, it would be better to connect the pump to the battery. If you want to minimize battery discharge connect the generator charging circuit to the battery at the same time.

RE: EEGODS!! what was that??

Propane alarms are sensitive by design and can be falsely triggered by who-knows-what. If it happens rarely chalk it up to the nature of the beast. When it becomes too much of a nucience replace it. Meanwhile try vacuuming or blowing compressed air into the grill opening. Many people use Kingdome dishes to receive Dish Network so your's should work. It is not a Dish problem. You need to have a qualified tech take a look at it.

RE: WATER PUMP

The 5.7 is a good pump but Shurflo advises not to use an accumulator with it.

RE: Slide lubricant

ProtectAll Slide Lubicant (spraycan, from CW) works great for me. If you are using a slide-specific lubricant and are indeed getting a sticky buildup maybe you are using too much of it.

RE: Harper's Ferry KOA

Am I the only one who thinks Harpers Ferry KOA is the biggest ripoff of the century?...I think we wills tay at fewer KOA's.Right. If you found one bad one they must all be bad. Seriously; my recent experience with KOAs has been the opposite. We have stayed at several on this trip and liked them all.

RE: KOA starting to require their CG's to conform

clarasgrama, until you study the history of my attacks on KOA and its funding of its lobby group, ARVC, please withhold your comments until you learn the truth about KOA and its politcal posture of trying to FORCE rvers to stay in their parks. There is absolutely nothing that KOA or ARVC can do that would force me to do anything. If you are talking about them advocating in opposition to free parking at Walmart, et. al., that is one of the things trade associations do and is a characteristic of the free enterprise system.

RE: KOA starting to require their CG's to conform

Why do some people feel so upset over where other people stay? If someone likes a campground and they want to share, why do others (I won't name him/her) get so upset? If you don't like a certain type of campground then don't stay there. Why do you feel the need to dictate and get sooooo upset. My heaven's.....take a nap. Lifes too short.Agreed, but the term KOA seems to do that to people who hold the dogmatic view that all KOAs are bad. The great thing about dogmatism is that it makes life so simple. Once a position has been chosen you never have to think.

RE: Brake caliper tempature monitor idea

It would seem that you could just place a nice simple IR detecting LED close to the area, calibrate it to a hand held both in positioning and temperature, and then design a display circuit as simple as a comparator (or 4 comparators) that would sound an alarm. Here's a nice IR detector, don't know the range though...part of the design process to find out. I'd think you'd need an industrial part too. IR detector...It would be great if things were as simple as that but they are not. The IR spectrum is very broad. The type of detector in the link is designed for "near infrared". IR radiation produced by hot objects is in the "far infrared". That detector would not react to it at all. I am not saying it is impossible to design and build a low cost DIY monitor based on IR technology but it would not be a trivial task. There are industrial IR measurement components available (see the links in 50pascal's post) but they are expensive.

RE: KOA starting to require their CG's to conform

We have stayed at several KOAs in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico on this trip and every one of them was nice, with nice people in charge.

RE: Brake caliper tempature monitor idea

KEWL!! I can't really tell in the PIX what the thermocouple is fastened to. What is the lag time? Can you watch the temp rise on a long down hill and let up at a certain temp and watch the temp go back down? How long does it take for brakes to cool off?I am the builder of the system shown in oemtech's post. The thermocouples are mounted to the brake pad backing plates. They are bolted on using holes drilled and tapped in the plates. The TCs are commercial types that came assembled with pigtail wires attached. Regulation Type K thermocouple wire connects them to the monitor. The lag time is very short and yes, you can watch the temps climb as the brakes are used and cool off afterward. They take alot longer to cool than to heat. The maximum temperature I have observed so far is about 550 degrees on the rear brakes going down a 7% grade with engine braking assist. They would likely have gone much higher if I hadn't been watching and down-shifted another gear.

RE: Albuquerque balloon festival

We are there now, on the east edge of the old field. There are only a handful of us this evening but it will fill up fast in the next few days. We are in the white Sea Breeze LX with the HWYBNB plate. If you are around you are welcome to stop and say Howdy.

RE: Brake caliper tempature monitor idea

Monitoring temperature is a great idea but I suggest measuring at the brake pads as shown in the preceding post rather than at the caliper. What I am really interested in is rotor or brake pad temperature because those are the hottest points. I have tried measuring the calipers and found that they were much lower in temperature and that they heated and cooled much more slowly because of their larger mass. The question that I cannot get an answer to is "how hot is too hot"? I have measured 550 degrees F on the rear brake pad backing plates going down a steep grade with heavy engine braking and moderate foot braking but have no idea where that number lies on the badness scale. I have been told that brake fade occurs at about 700 degrees and that race car brakes can each 900 degrees, which is the point that they glow red, but can't get any meaningful numbers otherwise. If anyone reading this can shed some light please do so.

RE: Directv bearing for Camp Hatteras

There is nothing to be gained by knowing the settings ahead of arrival. get them after you arrive as Ray suggests.
